The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is another pathway to permanent residency designed to help local employers hire qualified workers for jobs that haven’t been filled locally. There are 4 provinces which come under this pilot program are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. The candidates can be overseas or living in Canada temporarily.
There are 3 programs which can be used to hire someone:
- Atlantic International Graduate Program
- Atlantic High-skilled Program
- Atlantic Intermediate-skilled Program
Each program has requirements that employer and the candidate must meet.
All employers who are looking to hire foreign workers must be designated by the provincial government of the Atlantic province where the he/she will be working.
To be designated, the hiring organization must:
- be in good standing
- have been operating in the Atlantic region for at least 2 years
- work with a settlement service provider organization to help their candidates get settlement services
There is no need of LMIA to hire any foreign worker however the province must endorse the job offer before the candidate can apply for permanent resident status.
For all 3 programs, applicants have to show proof that they meet the language, education and work experience requirements and that they have enough money to support them and their family upon arrival in Canada.
